This contest is organized by the International Association of Logging Championships (IALC), which currently numbers 30 member countries (Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Ecuador, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Great Britain). The Association of Forestry Engineers and Technicians of Serbia is also a member of the IALC.
The first World Logging Championship was organized by Hungary and the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1970. The former Yugoslavia was a regular participant in all subsequent contests until its dissolution in the 1990s. Logging is considered the most dangerous profession after mining, as it requires perfect physical fitness and entails huge expenses of energy in carrying out everyday activities in various weather conditions and on specific terrain configurations.
