The company Henkel Srbija opened a new Somat plant in Krusevac today. This is a EUR 20 million investment. A total of 50 people will be employed at the new factory, and the exports of this Krusevac plant will increase by 20%.

The new factory will use the new Somat technology for the first time, which will also bring a new product to the market – Somat dishwasher tablets with a degradable foil, with which, as the company says, they will supply 36 regional, European and world markets.

The director of Henkel Srbija, Dusan Antonijevic, said that Henkel had been successfully operating in Serbia for over 15 years and that EUR 200 million had been invested in the Serbian market so far.

– We initiated the construction of the new facility last year. In Krusevac, we have four production facilities for powdery and liquid detergents, toilet fresheners and, starting today, Somat tablets. We expect the exports to grow by 20% after the opening, bringing the total value up to EUR 150 million – Antonijevic said.

He added that the factory was built in the shortest amount of time possible, in only eight months. Antonijevic reminded that 19 production lines, as well as a regional warehouse, operated in Krusevac.

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said that she expected Henkle to become one of the top 10 exporters from Serbia.

She reminded that Henkel was a socially responsible company, which has invested several hundred thousand euros in the local community, for schools, healthcare, road infrastructure and other projects.

It is important for Serbia to develop the cooperation with Germany, as this country is one of its most important trade partners and one of the leaders in the field of new technologies, the prime minister stated.

She pointed out that cooperation with the German-Serbian Chamber of Commerce on the opening of educational centers throughout Serbia, in which people from Serbia will be trained for jobs requiring high qualifications, would be established.

– It is important for us to expand our range of cooperation with Germany as much as possible, as it is one of the technological leaders in Europe – Brnabic said and added that German companies provided good working conditions, as well as new technologies, which increase competitiveness and exports.

Ambassador of Germany to Serbia Axel Dittmann said that Henkel was a visible symbol of an increasingly intensive economic cooperation between Germany and Serbia. As he said, around 400 German companies with around 44,000 employees operated in Serbia, and the desire is for the positive trend to continue and gain strength.

– We are working together with our Serbian partners on improving the business environment in Serbia, through reforms in the rule of law. Germany will give strong support to Serbia in this field on its road to the European Union – Dittmann said.

Wolfgang Weber, Head of Digital Transformation & SHEQ at Henkel, said that this was a very important investment for the German company on the regional, but also the global, level.

Michael Czech, Vice President of Marketing, Laundry and Home Care at Henkel CEE, emphasized that Somat, a renowned brand for machine dishwashing, belonged to the category which is the second one in growth in the sector of detergents and house cleaning products, with an average growth of more than 5% in the Serbian market in 2017.

Henkel has been operating in Serbia for 15 years, since it bought the Krusevac-based company Merima for EUR 14.6 million. The company has continued to develop since and now it also operates in Indjija and in Belgrade. In Krusevac, Henkel has 200 permanent employees, whereas around 500 more are hired through agencies.

The German company Henkel was founded in 1876, and in 2017 it realized sales of EUR 20 billion and an operating profit of EUR 3.5 billion. The three most famous Henkel brands in Serbia are Persil, Schwarzkopf and Loctite, and they`ve realized over EUR 6.4 billion of sales in total.

In 1962, Henkel launched Somat – the first cleaning detergent in Germany specifically developed for dishwashers. The company employs nearly 53,000 people worldwide.
