The New York Times and the New Yorker won the public service journalism award for reporting on Harvey Weinstein and sexual harassment.
The Press-Democrat of Santa Rosa, California, won the breaking news reporting award for lucid and tenacious coverage of historic wildfires in California.
Reuters won two Pulitzer Prizes – for international reporting and feature photography.
The Washington Post also won the award for investigative reporting.
Pulitzer Prizes are awarded as acknowledgment for best jouranlism in 2017 in newspapers, magazines and on websites, in 14 categories for reporting, photography, criticism and commentary.
The first journalism prizes were awarded in 1917.
Awards in letters, drama and music
Kendrick Lamar is the first music artist outside of classical music or jazz to win the Pulitzer Prize, for his song collection DAMN.
The novel Less, by Andrew Sean Greer, won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction, whereas the prize for drama was awarded to Martyna Majok for Cost of Living.
The work Locking Up Our Own: Crime and Punishment in Black America, by James Forman Jr, won the award for general nonfiction, and Jack E. Davis won the prize in the category of History for his The Gulf: The Making of an American Sea.
Frank Bidart won the poetry prize for Half-light: Collected Poems 1965-2000.
