The former Sremska Mitrovica-based meat industry giant Mitros, which was revived two years ago by the Austrian company Gerlinger, is successfully realizing and implementing its business plans in Serbia. This year alone, with three farms, Mitros will have close to 100,000 fatlings. As for next year, it plans big investments and modernization of former farms in Kovilovo and Jakovo. With new investments, they would realize a plan of having half a million fatlings by 2022, Ramo Adrovic, Director General of Mitros, says for Novosti ahead of the company's anniversary.

This meat packing company was rescued on April 17, 2016, thanks to the Austrian investor, which reactivated the facility and which has invested more than EUR 28 million in its modernization so far.

– The agreement says that our investments amount to EUR 20 million and that we need to have 300 employees by 2017. We already honored this two years ago and we now have 360 workers, and the investments have already been exceeded – Adrovic says.

Although they haven't managed to reach an agreement with livestock farmers from Srem and Macva, where they offered pigs for per-order fattening to farmers, this didn't discourage them from initiating the realization of the second phase.

– We have rented a large pig farm complex in Bogatic, which we have modernized and in which we have invested over EUR 1.5 million. We have around 10,000 pigs in one tour there, or 36,000 a year, and we've also signed an agreement with Darko Gajic from Vladimirci, who is fattening 9,000 pigs for us in one tour, which will amount to 27,000 fatlings this year – emphasizes Adrovic, who already estimates that Mitros will have close to 100,000 fatlings in 2018 alone.

He explains that they plan to rent the former cattle farm in Kovilovo for 30 years as soon as 2019, where 30,000 pigs will be fattened in one tour. Negotiations about the lease of the pig farm in Jakovo, where as many as 60,000 pigs can be fattened in one tour, are also in progress, so that the goal of having half a million fatlings in four years would be achieved.
