Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic and Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto officially cut the ribbon at the border and said that the new border crossing would make life easier for the local populace.
Szijjarto said that this was the eighth border crossing between Serbia and Hungary and that the border was 164 kilometers long.
As he said, the local populace used to have to travel around 50 kilometers in order to cross the border, whereas now it will only take them several minutes to move from one place to the other.
Szijjarto announced that the works on another border crossing, Rabe-Kubekhaza, would start in 2018 and that it should open in 2019.
Prior to the opening, Ivica Dacic had a meeting with Szijjarto in the Hungarian village of Gara.
They discussed the further enhancement of bilateral relations, and the meeting was attended by Istvan Pasztor, President of the Assembly of Vojvodina.
