Researchers at the Goldsmiths Institute at the University of London have reached the conclusion that being exposed to live music lifts the mood by 21%, as compared to yoga, which increases the sense of well-being by 10%.
The study says that attending a live gig can potentially expand life expectancy by several years. The researchers used a sample of 60 people who attended concerts, did an hour of yoga or went dog-walking.
Prior to the activity, they were given a 40-question quiz, and they were afterwards divided into three groups of 20 members and their heart rate was measured.
– Our research showcases the profound impact gigs have on feelings of health, happiness and wellbeing – with fortnightly or regular attendance being the key – said Patrick Fagan of the Goldsmiths Institute.
