Jens Spahn, the new Federal Minister of Health of Germany, wants to address the burning problem of the lack of medical nurses and technicians in Germany by stepping up the “import” from the EU countries, writes Rheinische Post, as reported by Hina.

– Already now, Germany needs over 17,000 workers in the care sector, which is why, in addition to trying to reactivate the domestic workforce, we will also intensively look for medical nurses and technicians from our European neighborhood – Spahn said.

He also announced an acceleration of the process of recognition of foreign diplomas and vocational certificates.

According to the latest statistics from 2015, a total of 300,000 foreign medical nurses and technicians work in Germany, the majority of them from Poland, followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kazakhstan.
