A discussion about the Draft Law on Water for Human Consumption was held at the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS) this Thursday, March 15, 2018, and legal solutions were presented and discussed.
– This is the first time that such a law is being prepared in Serbia. The work group, which featured members of the Public Health Institutes of Vojvodina and Nis, the Batut Institute, the Public Health Institute of Belgrade and the Ministry of Health, prepared a draft law on the health safety of the drinking water for the public water supply and the health safety and quality of water in original packaging. This is very important, as our legal framework regulates water for human consumption through two laws – the Law on Food Safety and the Law on Waters – in two different ways. The question of water is also regulated by certain bylaws, among other by the Decree on the manner of preparation and adoption of technical regulations and running a register of those regulations. This treats water as a technical device, like a TV set, and not as something for human consumption – said Zvonko Platisa, independent adviser at the Ministry of Health and the president of the work group which prepared the Draft Law on Water.
He noted that, as an EU candidate, Serbia had an obligation to harmonize its legal framework with the laws of the European Union, including the field of water, the Belgrade-based newspaper writes.
