Phone line for reporting illegal employment opens

As part of the project “Say NO to Illegal Employment”, carried out by the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy and financially supported by the Norwegian embassy, a free phone line for reporting illegal employment has been opened.

Citizens of Serbia can dial 0800 300 307 for free and anonymously report if they have been hired without an employment contract, as well as any other kind of unlawful labor practice, the competent ministry announced.

Minister Zoran Djordjevic invited everyone who has had basic principles of dignified employment denied to them to require their legal rights to be honored and to report illegal employment.

– Illegal employment harms everybody – the state, employers adhering to the law, and especially workers who lose social benefits. For this reason, I encourage citizens to report if they are working without an employment contract and if they are not registered for mandatory social insurance. It is employers that will be penalized for such violations exclusively, not workers who have been employed illegally. The ministry I run is determined to fight to protect workers' rights and provide a healthy environment for employers, aiming to have Serbia be a regulated country, able to stand shoulder to shoulder with EU countries – Minister Djordjevic said.

Numerous activities are planned within the project, including increased field activities of the Labor Inspectorate and educational workshops throughout Serbia.
