Western Balkans Summit on July 9-10 in London

The next Western Balkans Summit, within the Berlin Process, will be held on July 9-10 in London, and one of the main topics will be help in digital transformation, the Western Balkans Summit coordinator in the UK, Andrew Page, told Tanjug today.

He said at the Kopaonik Business Forum that Great Britain had expressed the wish to remain committed to helping the Western Balkans region, despite Brexit.

– Economic stability, connections between the countries of the region, a further development of the infrastructure – roads, railways, help in digital transformation and youth entrepreneurship and similar topics will be the priority – Page said.

He emphasized that the unemployment rate in region, especially concerning young people, was still very high.

Tanjug's interviewee says that the summit will also deal with questions within the Berlin Process and points out that the past summits have been very successful.

He said that great progress had been made in the preceding years and that the action plan for the single economic area in the region had been signed in Trieste in order to enhance the trade and investments in the Western Balkans.

Page said that a special set of questions would be dealt with at the summit, such as the help in countering corruption, fight against organized crime, human trafficking and drug trade, support to the cooperation between the ministries of internal affairs and security services in the region, but also resolving the question of missing persons and similar issues.
