Architectural designers Nikken Sekkei say that the main idea is to have the capital of Japan transformed into an ecological forest-city by 2041.
The W350 Project entails the construction of 70 floors and having 90% of the structure built of wood, with the remaining 10% made of steel. The building will feature office space, a hotel, outlets and a residential section. The roof will be developed into a garden, and the balconies will be full of greenery as well.
– New technological advances with construction techniques and composite wood make this a very exciting area at the moment – architect Riccardo Tossani points out.
Although the current Tokyo building regulations limit the use of wood, an amendment has been announced. Once completed, the building will be the tallest wooden structure in the world.
