Representatives of 31 companies from the south of Italy will meet with business people from Serbia and the region at the gathering dedicated to the cooperation in the field of the production of food and drinks, to be held on February 27, at Hotel Hyatt in Belgrade.
Marina Scognamiglio, the head of the Belgrade office of the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic of Italy, announced this in her interview for RTS.
As stated in the agency's press release, producers of food and drinks from southern Italian regions – Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Apulia, Sicily, Abruzzo, Molise and Sardinia, will present their products to their colleagues from Serbia and the region, while learning about the food-agricultural sector of Serbia and the neighboring countries.
– Around 40 business people and purchasers from the region, who will attend this event thanks to the cooperation with the offices of ICE in Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Albania and Montenegro, and which represent the markets of 9 countries of the region, will also attend presentations, workshops and B2B meetings which will be organized as part of this event which takes place under the auspices of the European Union as part of the Piano Export Sud II project – Scognamiglio explained.
Citizens will be introduced to famous delicacies from Italy at the big presentation to be organized at the Delta City shopping center on February 24 – she announced.
As added in the press release, the announced events are a continuation of the remarkably successful economic cooperation between Italy and Serbia. When it comes to Serbian exports, Italy is the most important exporting partner of Belgrade, whereas the country takes the second spot, behind Germany, when it comes to imports. In the agricultural and food sector, Italy is the first on the list of the countries Serbia imports goods from (in the amount of over EUR 80 million), which speaks to the existing strong economic ties, which might further strengthen thanks to products from the south of Italy.
The total trade between Italy and Serbia, according to official data for the January-October 2017 period, amounts to around EUR 3.298 billion, a considerable increase compared to 2016 and 2015. The export of Serbia to Italy amounted to EUR 1.699 billion, whereas Italy exported goods worth EUR 1.599 billion to Serbia, it is added.
