– This year's festival will see 116 premieres and the screening of 10 classic films in 15 categories in 7 theaters. The films will be screened at Sava Centar, Belgrade Youth Center, Cultural Center of Belgrade, Yugoslav Film Archive, Vlada Divljan Cultural Center, Fontana cinema in New Belgrade and, for the first time this year, at Cine Grand Rakovica – pointed out Ivona Jevtic, secretary for culture of the City of Belgrade.
Recipient of multiple awards, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, directed by Martin McDonagh, will be given the honor of opening FEST. There will be three contest programs within the festival – the international one and the national selection, with seven awards each, as well as the Frontiers program, within which the award for the best film will be handed out – Jevtic pointed out.
She announced that the Belgrade Victor awards for a remarkable contribution to the art of film will be received by the Hungarian director Istvan Szabo and the Serbian actress Neda Arneric, whereas the director Karen Shakhnazarov will be awarded the Belgrade Victor for his life work.
Jugoslav Pantelic, the artistic director of FEST, highlighted certain titles not to be missed, such as Call Me by Your Name, by Luca Guadagnino, Phantom Thread, by Paul Thomas Anderson, In the Fade, by Fatih Akin, You Were Never Really Here, by Lynne Ramsay, Jupiter's Moon, by Kornel Mundruczo, The Forgiven, by Roland Joffe, and Legend of the Demon Cat, by Kaige Chen. Certain titles are expected to acquire a cult status, such as Michael R. Roskam's Racer and the Jailbird, and the Belgrade audience will be the first to see Eva, by Benoit Jacquot, and Mug, by Malgorzata Szumowska, arriving straight from Berlinale. The latter is to close the 46th FEST.
Sixteen films from all corners of the globe will be in the main competition, and Pantelic highlights the under-recognized Nico, 1988, by Susanna Nicchiarell. Another film to take note of is Ziad Doueiri's The Insult, one of this year's Oscar candidates.
Pantelic noted that there were only five films in the Serbian Film program, as a consequence of the decision to have premieres compete exclusively.
The tickets will be available from February 3, and a discount of 10% on sets of tickets per time of screening will be available for the first seven days.
