The traffic route in question will have six lanes, a triple row of trees, a bicycle lane and parking spaces and is currently being built in the location of the Belgrade Waterfront. It will connect the Vojvode Misica Blvd, at the Belgrade Fair, and the Karadjordjeva Street, in the location in which a new bridge will replace the Old Sava Bridge. Each end will feature a large roundabout.
City Architect Milutin Folic says that the new boulevard is especially significant as it will provide an alternative to the Savska Street, the reconstruction of which is to start immediately after the corridor is traced. The new boulevard will be completed in late 2018 or early 2019.
The works on this traffic route began last year. Several hundred meters at the Sava Bridge have been completed, and the construction of the central section is now in progress.
– The new Sava boulevard will be 40-m wide. The route will feature a traffic island with a row of trees. One side of the boulevard will feature a bicycle lane 3 meters wide, situated between another two tree-rows – Folic says.
The sidewalks will be covered with granite slabs, modeled after those in the Kneza Mihaila Street, and will feature green areas and benches. LED lighting will be used at night. As Novosti reports, installations, irrigation and rainwater systems, a waste water disposal system, a drinking water network, as well as electrical and telecommunications installations are currently being set up.
Once the construction works are completed, a public transport line will go through the central area of the Belgrade Waterfront.
