The Russian energy giant Gazprom obtained the permit for the construction of the second branch of the sea section of the Turkish Stream pipeline from the Turkish authorities, the company announced.

Alexey Miller, CEO of Gazprom, said that all the necessary permits from the Government of Turkey for the sea section of the Turkish Stream pipeline had thereby been obtained.

– Now, the exploitation of both branches of the pipeline will start within a precisely defined deadline period, until the end of 2019 – Miller said.

He pointed out that, in line with the plan, the project was being realized in three sections simultaneously – on the coasts of Russia and Turkey, as well as in the Black Sea, Sputnik reports.

– Over 760 kilometers of both branches have been laid down on the sea section. The construction of the section on the coast of Russia is being completed, and the construction of the collection terminal platform in Turkey has started as well – Miller said.

On May 7, 2017, Gazprom started building the sea section of the Turkish Stream pipeline. The project entails the construction of two branches with capacities of 15.75 billion cubic meters of gas each.

The first branch is meant for delivery of gas to Turkish consumers and the plan is for it to be put into operation in March 2018, and the second one is meant to supply South and Southeast Europe and the deadline for its commissioning is 2019.
