The director of the Tourism Organization of Serbia (TOS), Marija Labovic, stated on Saturday, January 6, 2018, that the country expected around EUR 1.2 billion in foreign exchange inflow from tourism in 2018. She told RTS that the capacities were 100% full during the New Year’s holidays, according to the data from local self-governments, and that “everyone has recorded a growth”.

– In general, both foreign and local tourists very gladly recognize Serbia as a tourist destination during the New Year’s holidays, being attracted by various open-air events and very good arrangements – Labovic pointed out.

She noted that 2017 was a record-setting year for tourism and added that she expected the result of over three million tourists and eight million overnight stays in the year, which is “more than ever before”.

An increase in the number of foreign tourists by 18% compared to a year before has, she says, exceeded expectations, and foreign exchange inflow of EUR 1.2 billion is expected.

Labovic explains that the number of tourists from Israel has also grown, by as much as 214% compared to 2016, whereas the number of tourists from China grew by 116%. Serbia traditionally welcomed guests from the region during the New Year’s holidays – Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, and there were also tourists from Russia and Turkey.

The director of the TOS says that foreign tourists choose to come over by following websites and adds that blogging campaigns are very important.

– They follow other media as well, relying on recommendations by friends and their previous personal experience to a great extent – Labovic said.
