Begec carrot becomes brand with protected designation of origin

The Begec carrot has been pronounced a product with a protected designation of origin, the City Council of Novi Sad announced on December 20.

The Begec carrot brand has thereby officially joined the Futog cabbage and the Fruska Gora linden honey as a brand with a protected designation of origin, the press release says.

The initiative was started several months ago by the local self-government of Novi Sad with consent from local agriculturists.

In April 2017, media also reported that Begec might get a carrot washing plant, as well as a collection and processing center.
