Arch-rivals Red Star and Partizan now have a new field in which to compete – a Monopoly board.

Beginning with the upcoming weekend, the clubs will boast a rare privilege of having their own Monopoly game. Football and board game fans will from now be able to win the most important cups and free kicks, step on squares bearing the names of the most renowned strikers and set up stadiums and bleachers on the Monopoly board, while playing with tokens modeled after trophies, goals, soccer shoes etc.

Lazar Vukovic of the British company Winning Moves, known for publishing Monopoly variants, says that there has been a global increase in the sale of board games in the past five years, as people seek personal interaction they miss.

– From the very start, Monopoly has been the most popular and the most played board game, as it deals with trade. The player aims to have the opponents declare bankruptcy, and the game features a number of attractive details, such as taxation, purchase and construction of hotels, with the game revealing a lot about the player’s character – Vukovic says.
