– The plan is to start producing electricity in late 2018 or early 2019 through co-generation from gas at the Zombolj site, one of the six concessions-exploration units in which the company performs explorations to the end of discovering oil and conventional gas – says Vanja Aleksic, Deputy General Manager of NIS Petrol and Executive Director for Explorations and Production.
The plan is to have up to 150 MWh of electricity produced a day, which NIS is to offer to the market, Aleksic says.
The electricity produced by NIS this way is sold in Serbia and the region – in Slovenia, Hungary and Romania, and which one will be the energy market depends on the price at the moment of sale.
Aleksic adds that this is the youngest business branch in NIS and that the volume of trade since the beginning of 2017 has amounted to 2.6 TWh of electricity.
When asked whether all the electricity traded was produced from gas, he says that it is only a smaller part (around 3%), whereas the rest is carried out at electricity markets in the said countries.
Through its subsidiary NIS Petrol SRL, NIS trades with electricity in the EU countries and the electricity markets in Romania (OPCOM) and Slovenia (BSP).
