Port of Bar open to investments from Serbia – Four companies interested in using grain silos

The development potential of the Port of Bar was presented at the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS), and, as pointed out at the presentation, the revitalization of the Belgrade-Bas railway and the construction of the Bar-Boljare highway will create much better opportunities for the transport of Serbian goods towards the port and vice versa.

The Port of Bar might once again become the main transport hub in this part of Europe, and Serbian companies have a “safe port” for its capital in it, stated the executive director of the Port of Bar, Zarija Franovic.

The intention of the management of this joint-stock company is for it to find its place on the map of the global project, the new “Silk Road”, initiated by China, Franovic emphasized. He presented all the possibilities provided by the company to representatives of over 50 Serbian companies interested in cooperation with the Port of Bar and invited them to invest.

– At the moment, four companies from Serbia are interested in using grain silos with capacities of 30,000 tons. The port also offers Serbian companies to enter strategic partnerships with capital, where they could build their own facilities and warehouses – Franovic explained.

He points out that a terminal specialized for reloading ore, bauxite, waste iron, grains, crushed stone and other materials will be available to Serbian businessmen.

– The Port of Bar no longer operates as it did in 2009, because it has been restructured and split into two state companies. The potential is underutilized and we want to improve the cooperation and increase the capacities through Serbia and its business entities – Franovic explained and reminded than many Serbian companies exported through the Port of Bar, such as Zelezara Smederevo, Fiat and others.

Nenad Djurdjevic, director of the Sector for Foreign Economic Relations at the CCIS, pointed to the importance of the Port of Bar for Serbia and the region as a whole. As he pointed out, the projects and activities realized on the revitalization of the Belgrade-Bar railway are helping the Port of Bar to re-position itself as an important destination for companies which export globally.

The importance of a transport hub in a neighboring state is perhaps best shown by the fact that the significance of the Port of Bar has been recognized by the governments of the region and that it has been included in the documents and the strategy within the Berlin process and the Connectivity agenda, Djurdjevic said.

The total merchandise trade between Serbia and Montenegro in the January-October period of 2017 amounted to EUR 646.2 million, an increase by 9.9% compared to the corresponding period of 2016.
