A new industrial zone, in which the opening of new factory halls in which 6,000 to 7,000 people could be employed is expected over the next three or four years, is to be raised and equipped at the Sobovica location in Kragujevac, Mayor of Kragujevac Radomir Nikolic said at the session of the City Assembly on December 5.

The members of the City Assembly summarily adopted the Detailed Regulation Plan of the Sobovica-Luznice Work Zone, which encompasses 663 hectares of agricultural land, of which around 280 hectares is meant for the work zone.

– We have a big project ahead of us, probably bigger than the project realized in the past period with Italy's Fiat. We expect the construction of a big industrial zone in Sobovica and the employment of a large number of people. We expect the arrival of Siemens to Kragujevac and we want to complete all the infrastructural works in 2018 – Nikolic said.

He pointed out that the construction of an industrial zone was “a big thing” for the city of Kragujevac and its citizens and that, if everything went according to plan, the number of the newly employed would be twice as big as that in 2017, in which there were 2,500 people fewer on the list of the unemployed.

– The works have already started. The road to Raca, from the Topola road, is in progress, and the works on the road to Jarusice are starting – Nikolic said.

The company Milanovic Inzenjering, which produces aluminum train components, and which is to be acquired by Germany's Siemens in early 2018, is already active in the location of the future industrial zone in Sobovica, next to the Kragujevac-Raca road.

The city administration previously announced an investment in the field of meat processing, with support by the Chinese company CMEC, in the future industrial zone.
