Business links between Slovenia and China have seen significant progress over the past few years.

Among the joint projects of the two countries are Pipistrel, a USD 300m worth aircraft plant, and recent acquisition of Slovenian software Autfit7 with amazing billion dollars.

Also, Slovenia has been intensively promoting its wine at the Chinese market.

Chinese SHS group arrived in Maribor with great plans to expand the airport. The runway should be extended by an additional 800 meters, which will enable take off of Airbus A330 or Boeing 777 aircraft. The idea is to become a regional passenger and cargo traffic center to China and from China.

It is planned that expansion will start in 2018 and that capacity from the current 600,000 passengers annually increases to three million.

At the airport there is currently no regular traffic, but only charter flights, and there are small airplanes on board as well as NATO military helicopters.

This, however, is not the only investment of this Chinese company in Maribor. One of their last acquisitions is RTS24 TV station, which has a national frequency in Slovenia. With this investment, the annual exchange of Slovenia and China reached almost USD 2 billion.
