The employees at the public enterprise Post of Serbia started a strike in post offices in Belgrade and other places in Serbia on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, stated the president of the Autonomous Trade Union of Postal Workers of Serbia, Zoran Pavlovic.
He explained in his statement for Beta that it was counter workers and postmen that were on strike.
– We have no information about the number of workers on strike, but it is probably not big, as people fear for their jobs – Pavlovic said.
As he added, more than 50 workers of the Post of Serbia have been suspended, most of them from the strikers board, due to earlier protests outside of working hours.
– If that many people are suspended just for expressing their dissatisfaction, it's clear that workers will fear going on strike – Pavlovic said.
He announced that the workers of the Post of Serbia would organize a protest walk through Belgrade from the company's headquarters in the Takovska Street on November 22.
The workers of the Post of Serbia demand the deposition of director Mira Petrovic, whose mandate as the acting director expired on September 12. They also demand for the budget inspection and the State Audit Institution to examine the operations of the public enterprise and for the management to withdraw the decisions on employee suspensions.
The list of their demands also includes salary raises, the deposition of the Supervisory Board of the Post of Serbia and for the workers employed on systematized jobs with temporary and periodical employment contracts to have their statuses turned into fixed-term employment. They also demand for an optimal number of people to be secured for technological jobs and for agreements with pensioners working in key positions in the company to be terminated.
