A subsidiary of a Turkish-German company and the local company Yaylafiliz will invest EUR 3 million in apple plantations and the production of chips from this fruit in the territories of Lacarak and Calma over the next three years.

According to the business plan, around 100 workers might get a job at the orchards during the season, whereas 16 to 20 are to be permanently employed at the chips production facility.

The Municipal Assembly of Sremska Mitrovica recently authorized the lease of 96 hectares of state agricultural land by this company for a period of 30 years.

According to mayor Vladimir Sanader, the investment will exceed EUR 3 million, and, in addition to the apple plantation itself, the processing facility, based on which they have received the land, will open as well. They will pay an annual rent of EUR 207 per hectare.

– They plan to have apples planted on much larger areas, but that also depends on their investments in the production – Sanader explained.
