– We have invested nearly EUR 3 million and intend to invest further, open new facilities and employ new people – Svetlana Bozinovic, director of Eko Step Pellet, said at the opening, as reported by eBranicevo.
– We have managed to make a good product, as 100% of the beech comes from this area, which features the best quality beech. Our pellets make for a very good fuel and we will continue to work on the quality, as our goal is to make the best product possible. We have done everything in our power to catch up with this heating season. The production capacity is 40,000 tons, and we can expand both spatially and technologically.
The new facility employs 32 workers, and the opening was attended by Minister of Energy Aleksandar Antic.
As the minister pointed out, pellets are excellent as a source of energy, because 95% of the mass is turned into heat, without producing resin, which is harmful to furnaces. It can be produced from sanitation harvests, but also from surplus and waste wood. Among the measures stimulated by the use of this energy source was the reduction of the VAT from 20% to 10%, which has lead to a recorded increase in pellet consumption by 25%.
– This is where opportunity lies for all factories dealing in this kind of production, including Eko Step – the minister said.
– The aim is to increase the production and the consumption from the current 250,000 tons to 500,000. We will thereby reduce the consumption of coal in individual households by around 35%, which is very important from the environmental aspect – Antic concluded, as reported by eBranicevo.
