At the Suppliers Day, organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, representatives of Lidl Serbia met with potential local suppliers of fruit and vegetables which meet international quality standards. As the CCIS reported, producers and distributors had an opportunity to be introduced to the possibilities, quality standards and the process of selection Lidl Serbia would use in choosing suppliers.

Opening the event, Veljko Jovanovic, director of the Sector for Agriculture of the CCIS, pointed out that the event was an opportunity for producers and distributors of fruit and vegetables to learn more about Lidl's needs and the way they could become its suppliers.

– This is only the first step in communication, and we hope that it will soon result in concrete arrangements. Suppliers Days are a regular CCIS activity, and the Chamber will create digital tools facilitating the connection between suppliers and commercial chains in the upcoming period – Jovanovic said.

In all the countries it operates in, Lidl is recognized for its offer, characterized by the best quality-price ratio, which will be the concept for Serbia as well, the CCIS says.

– In order to ensure a high quality and freshness of products in each category, including fruit and vegetables, we pay a lot of attention to the selection of suppliers. For this reason, we are extremely glad that we have been given an opportunity today to initiate direct communication with local suppliers which are to be our partners – pointed out Daniel Petrovecki, supply chain manager at Lidl Serbia.

During the event, suppliers presented their products to Lidl representatives in direct conversation and asked additional questions. The event marks the initial step towards establishing a potential cooperation, and concrete results of the meetings should become apparent in the upcoming months.

Lidl, based in Neckarsulm, Germany, is a member of the Schwartz Group and the biggest discount commercial chain in Europe, with a tendency of dynamic growth. It is present in 30 countries and operational in 27 countries of Europe and in the United States of America. In Serbia, it is currently working intensively on constructing outlets and establishing an organizational structure which will open the first Lidl stores in 2018, the press release adds.
