An Indian company, Mahindra or Tafe, is going to buy IMT Belgrade, Vecernje Novosti reports, citing confirmation by the Minister of Agriculture Branislav Nedimovic.

Beta reports that he announced today that he would talk to the two biggest Indian producers of tractors, Tafe or Mahindra, which are interested in producing tractors in Serbia, during the upcoming weekend.

– We have prepared as best as we could for these negotiations and we will give it our best so that they would prove successful – Nedimovic told the press prior to his leaving for India and added that the state would provide support to anyone looking to invest in Serbia.

According to him, the tractor industry should be as useful to the state as Zelezara Smederevo or Fiat are.

– In my opinion, this is the most important field. It is not a complicated industry, we are competent, and there is a tradition in this field in Serbia, but there's no money to invest in it – Nedimovic said and pointed out that Serbia was importing tractors at the moment.
