By the end of 2017, Bredent will bring short implants to the Serbian market, and it has been offering new materials for construction of dental replacements to dentists in Serbia since recently, namely, BioHPP, which it presented at the recently completed Medident – Fair of Medicine and Stomatology in Belgrade. They've also started organizing education courses, with the first one held on October 20-21 at the Faculty of Dental Medicine. The courses entail surgery and prosthetics with hands-on training for all participants. It has been accredited and will be held twice a year from now on.

The German company Bredent has been producing and selling dentistry materials for over 40 years. Since 2012, they've also had an office in Belgrade, producing implants and regenerative materials, as well as dental technology materials.

– Bredent was founded as a family business back in 1974, and this is our sixth year of operations in the Serbian market, through retail and wholesale. We represent everything the parent company produces, which means over 10,000 articles customers can order at any moment. Our materials enable dentists and dental technicians to achieve and maintain the high quality of affordable aesthetic restorations – Igda Markov, director of Bredent Serbia, says for eKapija.

She points out that Bredent is synonymous with innovation in its field. Their target group in Serbia are dental offices and individual dental technicians, but they also cooperate with other wholesale outlets, which further distribute their products to customers.

(Igda Markov) – We also cooperate with the faculties in Belgrade and Kosovska Mitrovica, and the faculty in Belgrade, which is in close proximity to our office, uses our products, implants and dental prosthetics materials – Markov explains and adds that Bredent Serbia employs four people for now.

Our interviewee sees the competition in the local market as very strong, considering that Serbia is a relatively small country. However, foreign companies are interested in being present, but not in making any big investments, she believes.

– I am satisfied with out operations so far and the fact that we have been realizing a growth in turnover and the number of clients since we began operating in Serbia – our interviewee points out.

Black market – biggest problem

The development of dental and medical tourism in Serbia also benefits companies producing dental medicine materials, and Igda Markov says that cooperation with colleagues exists in this segment as well.

– The implants and materials sold by Bredent are made in Germany and have a certain guarantee, which is useful to dental offices which deal in dental tourism, as they are able to offer a tested product to their patients. I believe that medical tourism in general holds great potential for Serbia, but it has to be well organized and the state should possibly provide certain support as well.

(From the first Bredent course) Bredent regularly attends the Belgrade Fair of Medicine and Stomatology and they often take part in professional congresses, where they present their products and possibilities of implementation to stomatologists and dental technicians.

– The main challenge in our operations is the black market, that is, goods smuggled from abroad through unknown channels. This is disloyal competition and they are very present, especially as our products are very small and relatively light – our interviewee explains.

The German company also takes parts in tenders in Serbia placed by state medical institutions, whether on its own or together with larger distributors. The plan for the next period is to further expand the business, and they also intend to organize round tables throughout Serbia to that end.

– We would bring together stomatologists and dental technicians there, in order to inform them about our products and the possibilities of implementation. Since we are representatives for the whole Serbia, we want to stimulate end users, doctors and technicians, a bit more, so that they could see what the materials can be used for and how to better present this to patients – Markov says in her interview for eKapija.
