Google decided to do something about it. Back in May 2016, they announced the implementation of Instant Apps, but it was still largely unclear what the option would entail at the time.
However, in early 2017, developers started noticing Instant Apps on Google Play here and there.
Android Instant Apps will enable Android users to test apps without needing to install them.
Google points out that this will enable users to have the same experience as if they had installed the app, and the apps will be accessible through a direct link, meaning that they don’t even have to go through Google Play. All it takes is an Android device and an internet link.
Android Instant Apps works on newer Android systems (5.0 and up), and app developers do not need to make new versions of their apps, but only to upgrade them with a tool that will be provided by Google.
For now, the option is available only for certain apps in certain markets. Google points out that the availability will depend primarily on developers themselves and their interest in upgrading their apps.
