Second Chinese train engine to arrive to TENT soon

(The first train engine shipped in April) The first Chinese train engine delivered to Serbia by CRRC in April has been put into operation, and another one is expected to arrive soon.

EPS procured a new electric train engine in April, the first one after three decades. It is supposed to provide a more reliable transport of coal to the Thermal Power Plant Nikola Tesla (TENT).

EPS is purchasing the train engines from the Chinese partners based on a contract worth RSD 533 million.

The train engine can develop speeds of up to 140 km/h, has a power of 7,000 kW and a cargo transport capacity of 4,500 tons. It weighs 120 tons and is 21.7 meters long.

The agreement on the shipment of two train engines was signed with TENT in March 2016 and is, they say, the first arrangement of the Chinese company in Serbia and the first one to be in line with the European TSI standard.

CRRC has strengthened its presence in remote markets in the past years and has also contracted jobs related to subway trains in Turkey, trains in Macedonia and the Czech Republic and hybrid buses in Austria.

The Chinese company was formed in 2015 through a merger between two former rivals and is the biggest producer of train engines, characterized by a strong expansion in the international market.
