Annual trade between Serbia and Belgium amounts to EUR 560 million

Belgium is an important economic partner of Serbia, as the annual trade amounts to EUR 560 million, it was said at the seminary organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia in cooperation with the Trade Department of the Embassy of Belgium, where examples of Belgian good practice in preparing projects financed from the EU funds were presented.

The director of the Sector for Foreign Economic Relations of the CCIS, Nenad Djurdjevic, pointed out at the gathering called “Brussels City Region – Possibilities of Enhancing Operations of Small and Medium Enterprises” that Serbia realized a trade worth EUR 560 million a year, but that the amount could be higher.

– There's room to increase the trade – Djurdjevic said and added that the biggest potential lies in the export of frozen fruit, as Belgium was the biggest and strongest frozen food market in Europe.

As he pointed out, over 20% of the companies in Serbia owned or co-owned by Belgian natural or legal persons deal in consulting, and the fields of consulting, lobbying and mediation have been recognized by Serbian companies as important ones.

Ambassador of Belgium to Serbia Leo D'aes said that the aim of the seminary was to bring the Serbian and the Belgian economies closer together, as well as to help Serbia enter the European market as soon as possible through advice and examples of good practice.

– The seminary is meant for businessmen from small and medium enterprises in Serbia to use the possibilities provided by European funds through an improved preparation of projects, which is very important – the ambassador pointed out.

The attendees had the opportunity to get to know the examples of good practice and experiences in preparing and implementing projects, as well as the importance of good preparation for applying for EU programs and funds available to small and medium enterprises.
