The National Company Maritime Ports Administration S.A. Constanta comes back to Belgrade, on September 21, 2017, at the conference room of Holiday Inn Hotel, with the event Constanta Port Day, which has become a landmark in the field of transport and logistics for Serbia and other countries in the region.
The event has changed, over the course of the 10 editions, into a meeting point with business partners, authorities, old and future partners of Constanta Port. Businessmen already using the opportunities offered by the Romanian maritime ports and intending to develop their business will be together this year too, well-known but also potential partners.
Those attending the event will be informed about news in the Romanian maritime ports, investments, facilities and opportunities, the potential for business development.
Constanta Port, first place in Europe for grain traffic
Between January and July 2017, 31 million tonnes of goods were handled in the Romanian maritime ports.
Of the total, one third of the amount of goods is represented by the grains, almost 10 million tonnes.
– In 2016, over 20 million tonnes of grains transited the port of Constanta. Our port will rank first among the European ports, for the second consecutive year, for the export of grains and we estimate that we will have an increase of even more than three million tonnes. This objective is linked to the river highway Danube, how well the depths of navigation are maintained both in the dry season and throughout the year by dredging operations – stated Nicolae Dan Tivilichi, the general manager of CN APM SA.
Serbia exports grains, in transit through the port of Constanta, to Iran, Iraq, Italy, the South Korea, Libya, Malta, Spain, Sudan, Syria, Cyprus, Greece, Israel, Turkey, Lebanon, Great Britain and Vietnam.
Serbia also imports, with transit through the port of Constanta, coal and coke, fertilizers, iron ores and scrap, non-ferrous ores and scrap, oil products, raw or processed minerals, machines and transport equipments from countries like: Russia, United States of America, Turkey, Brazil, Egypt, Jordan, China and South Africa.
(Nicolae Dan Tivilichi) In 2016, the traffic of goods between the port of Constanta and Serbia was of 5.5 million tonnes. This year, in the first 7 months, the traffic of goods has reached 3.8 million tonnes, as compared to 3.1 million tonnes in the same period of 2016.
– The positive evolution of the traffic of goods between the port of Constanta and Serbia comes to emphasize the potential of cooperation. In recent years, the traffic increase has been steady, and on the top there were, first of all, the grains, then fertilizers, oil products, non-ferrous ores and scrap – states Nicolae Dan Tivilichi, the general manager of CN APM SA.
Important investments relaunched
The volume of cargo transiting the port of Constanta has all the premises to grow in the next period too.
This year the investments of private operators have been relaunched, being guaranteed for the first time by the rental contracts of public port domain.
The total volume of investments assumed by private operators in 2017 is of about 120 million euro and they are to be completed within five years.
– Until the end of 2017, we expect the volume of private investments announced to exceed 180 million euro. As long as private operators make investments, this will turn into cargo transiting the port of Constanta – said Nicolae Dan Tivilichi.
The Company has also relaunched the investments with own funds or European funding.
After 10 years, the maintenance dredging works have started in the Romanian maritime ports, in order to bring the depths to the appropriate quota in the targeted areas in the ports of Constanta and Midia. The procedure for investment dredging was also launched, a project worth 40 million euro, as well as the investment for the specialized deep-water berth – 5.7 million euro.
The project on the Upgrade of infrastructure and environmental protection in the port of Constanta is ongoing, a project worth over 12.5 million euro, within witch a self-propelled tanker will be purchased, in order to make the required measurements.
In the coming months, three other projects will be started, worth 404 million euro: building of the Pier III of the port of Constanta (300 million euro), rehabilitation of electrical networks (68 million euro), modernization of water and sewage system (36 million euro).
Over the past year, the port of Constanta has become, together with the Ministry of Transport, a catalyst for achieving a coherent naval strategy, involving all the authorities of the Danube ports and the business environment.
– The Danube is the most important highway in Europe, which we must use to its true potential. Romania and Serbia are partners on this route, the river making possible the exit of Serbia to the Black Sea, through the port of Constanta. We do have important competitors, but the strategic position, the infrastructure and facilities offered by the port of Constanta are undeniable advantages. In the current economic climate, we consider the Serbian companies as important partners for the future development of the port of Constanta – stated Nicolae Dan Tivilichi.
