European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR) finances construction of regional water supply system for six municipalities in the Rasina region.

The project was presented yesterday (August 14, 2008) in Kruševac and it will include construction of the regional water supply system that will use water from Ćelije lake and enlargement of the capacity of water treatment unit from 600 to 1,000 liters per second. In that way, the problem of water supply will be solved on long-term basis.

The Rasina region will apply with this project for the preadmission funds of European Union.

The value of the project is about 13m EUR. Local self-managements have provided 4m EUR, partially from their own funds and partially from the funds of NIP, while 9m EUR should be provided from European funds.

The leader of the Program for support to development of infrastructure of local self-management, Kok van Shoten, said that the representatives of EAR would back Kruševac's project in front of the Administrative Board of the Republic Government, which is going to choose the projects that will get the funds from IPA funds on September 9.

- Last year EAR provided 80,000 EUR for the design of the feasibility study for the project that includes reconstruction and enlargement of the capacity of water factory in Majdevo and the regional water supply network - said van Shoten.

He added that Kruševac was one of the candidats for so-called IPA financing, so that EAR will exert its influence on the Republic Government to accept that project.

Van Shoten said that Serbia would be getting 35m EUR per year from IPA funds for such projects starting from 2009, and he suggested to the representatives of local authorities to inform the Ministry of Finance and the Directorate for Waters on all details of the regional water supply project.

It was agreed at the meeting that the task force should be made from the representatives of municipalities, local water supply companies, EAR and the Directorate for Waters, and its task would be to complete the technical documentation prior to September 9th and to prepare it for presentation to the ministries within the Administrative Board.
