Serbian Railways terminate property evaluation

The Serbian Railways will probably not sell its property, estimated by Minister of Construction at RSD 16 billion in early 2017, any time soon.

The Railways opened a tender for evaluation of its real estate in late 2016. However, in early August, the decision was made to terminate the procedure, as no satisfactory bid had been sent. Two companies, Adventis Real Estate Management and Coreside, sent their offers, but got rejected because the offers exceeded the planned budget.

The sale list features 286 pieces of real estate, among them outlets, warehouses, stores, head office buildings, hotels and other facilities in several towns in Serbia. Among the most attractive items in the Serbian capital are the Beograd hotel in the Nemanjina St, outlets in the Cvijiceva, Krunska and Njegoseva Streets, as well as the Zeleznicar hotel in Vranjska Banja, located next to the mineral water spring and featuring 120 beds. The Chinese company Betec Resources is also interested in this hotel.

The evaluation list includes the Milinka mansion and a hotel in Banja Koviljaca, but also a football stadium with accompanying facilities in Zrenjanin.

In early 2017, Prime Minister Zorana Mihajlovic said that the Railways' property had been inventoried for the first time in the company's existence and that its book value was RSD 16 billion. Until the Railways re-initiate the tender, it remains to be seen what its market value is.
