After four decades, the Nis office of Air Serbia (formerly JAT) was closed. The building in the Vozdovacka Street in the city`s center has been completely emptied, and it closed down on August 1.

As Juzne Novosti learns unofficially, all the national airline's offices outside Belgrade are closed down, and there used to be eight of them in Nis, Novi Sad and Uzice.

There were three employees at the Nis office, and, although airline tickets are sold online, companies have offices for the purpose of customer complaints or to solve other issues and handle special requests and provide similar services.

According to so far unconfirmed information, Air Serbia didn't use to rent the facility but owned it instead, displaying the recognizable JAT Airways logo in the window for years.

The company announced earlier that it would let go 30 workers, which was confirmed by the chairman of the company's Supervisory Board, Sinisa Mali.

Let us remind that the company's planes have not been flying from Nis since 2009, and, although there have been announcements about potential new commercial flights from the Constantine the Great Airport, this hasn't happened, Juzne Vesti reports.

Air Serbia confirmed for Beta that it was in the process of closing its offices in Nis, Novi Sad and Uzice in line with its business policy of reducing costs and making its operations more efficient.

As they say, the decision is a logical step following a drop in the sales of tickets in these offices, as the habits of modern travelers have changed considerably with time.

- Today, our clients are more interested in purchasing tickets online, through contact centers and authorized agents, which is a noticeable trend in most other airlines worldwide as well. Air Serbia needs to change in line with technological changes and changes of market conditions - the company says.

Furthermore, as they explain, two of the three said offices needed to be rented, making for an additional cost for Air Serbia, which was not rational.

The company's main offices in Belgrade, which, as they say, are visited by a considerable number of clients and which are not only a place where tickets are sold, but a service center as well, will continue with their regular activities.
