After a six-year break, the BBC is returning to Serbia and will be made available in Serbian, according to unofficial information Tanjug has, most probably this autumn.

The renowned British public service has, according to Tanjug's findings, already rented premises in Belgrade, where around twenty people should work, uploading information, primarily audio and video content, to the online platform.

The project is a part of the new strategy of transformation and expansion of the BBC World Service, which, as announced, entails the implementation of services in 11 new languages and the strengthening of the existing ones.

When asked by Tanjug to verify the information, the London headquarters referred the agency to a short press release from this March, which says that the online service in Serbian would be established as part of the World Service expansion.

It's interesting, however, to note that, according to unofficial findings, Serbian is the only European language among the 11 new ones.

The announced expansion is the biggest one since the 1940s.

The closing down of the Serbian department, along with four other services, including the Albanian and the Macedonian one, in February 2011 was explained by inevitable saving the British government was forced to carry out due to the economic crisis.
