Final tunnel on Corridor 10 dug through – Completion of Manajle passage in 2017

The Corridors of Serbia announced today that the right-hand tunnel pipe of the Manajle tunnel had been laid down, whereby the final tunnel on Corridor 10 had been dug through. The tunnel is 1,804 meters long, located on the south branch of Corridor 10, on the E-75 highway, on the Caricina Dolina-Vladicin Han section.

– Aside from being the longest road tunnel in Serbia, it has also proven to be the hardest one to build. With great efforts by the Corridors of Serbia and thanks to a considerable and constant support from the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, the problems which occurred due to extremely unfavorable hydro-geological conditions – unplanned inflow of underground waters, tunnel caving and strong ground pressure – have been successfully overcome – the Corridors say in a press release.

In September 2016, the left-hand tunnel pipe was dug through.

The Corridors of Serbia are the investor of the project, whereas the Bulgarian company Consortium Alliance X (Euro Alliance Tunnels JSC and Road & Bridges ltd). The contracted value of the works is EUR 36.25 million.

As stated, the tunnel will be equipped with the latest telecommunications systems, transport equipment and signalization, as well as video surveillance, a radio system, SOS posts, alcoves for malfunctioning vehicles, a fire warning system, a toxic gas detection and monitoring system and a speed measuring system.

The tunnel pipes will be connected by evacuation passageways intended for pedestrians and intervention vehicles. The works are expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
