Renovated Obilicev Venac garage opens in Belgrade – 804 parking spaces available to drivers

The renovated Obilicev Venac garage opened on Saturday, July 1, 2017, and 804 parking spaces are now available to drivers. RSD 500 million was invested in the reconstruction and this is the first garage in Belgrade to have electric car chargers.

Mayor of Belgrade Sinisa Mali says that they have thought about the citizens living in the neighborhood and that they have been provided with 217 parking spaces on the final two floors, at a the special price of RSD 6,500 a month.

Solar panels are located on the top of the garage, and it can be entered only from the Marsala Birjuzova Street, where two entrances and two exits are located. The facility also features video surveillance and LED lighting, four electric car chargers and an elevator, which will considerably facilitate movement throughout the facility, especially for persons with disabilities. The garage also features new foundations, construction and facade and is fully covered by a roof.

A total of 40 parking spaces for cyclists have been installed within the garage, and there's also the option of renting bicycles, available to those who park their vehicles at the garage.

The mayor announced that the decision on the public partnership for four new underground garages in the Kosancicev Venac Street, the Studentski Trg Street, the Republic Square and the Kosovska Street will be reached at the next City Assembly.

– I expect that we will start building those garages in the city's center in mid-2018. This opens the possibility of turning the Vasina Street into a pedestrian zone. Next year, the reconstruction of the Republic Square, the Terazije tunnel and Bezistan will begin. Year by year, Belgrade is turning into a big construction site – the mayor said.

City Manager Goran Vesic said that parking spaces had been provided at the Obilicev Venac garage to citizens who want to use them from 5 p.m. till the next morning, at the price of RSD 4,000.

– By turning the Obilicev Venac Street into a pedestrian zone, we have removed 115 parking spaces from the streets, while opening 217 spaces – Vesic said.
