The Russian gas giant Gazprom, the Greek DEPA, the French EDF and the Italian Edison signed an agreement on cooperation on Friday, June 2, aiming to create a southern route for the delivery of Russian gas to Europe.

The document was signed by CEO of Gazprom Alexey Miller, CEO of Edison, Vice President of the EDF Group and CEO of DEPA Theodoros Kitsakos at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

– The Cooperation Agreement is aimed at establishing a southern route for Russian gas supplies from Russia to Europe, which would run across Turkey to Greece and further to Italy. Pursuant to the document, the companies will also coordinate the implementation of the TurkStream project and the Poseidon project in the area from the Turkish-Greek border to Italy – says the press release by Gazprom.

The Poseidon project entails the construction of a pipeline across the Black Sea to Greece and further, to southern Italy.
