The Digital Serbia Initiative was officially presented on May 29. This is a non-profit private association initiated by Ringier Axel Springer Serbia and the leading companies from the field of technology, for the purpose of enhancing the frameworks and ecosystems necessary for securing technological entrepreneurship and digital innovations in the industry and education in Serbia. The founders of the Initiative are Infostud, Microsoft, Nordeus, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Ringier Axel Springer, Seven Bridges, Startit, Telekom Srbija and Telenor.

As said at Ringier Axel Springer, the board of directors of the Initiative will consist of representatives of the founding companies and will be headed by Branko Milutinovic, CEO and co-founder of Nordeus.

All the activities of the association will be oriented towards enhancing the framework and the investment environment needed for technological entrepreneurship, innovations in the Serbian IT industry and an increased level of digital literacy and education in digital economy, the press release says, and all companies looking to take part in the realization of this goal and contribute to the Digital Serbia Initiative are invited to join.

As explained, the initiative is founded in the wake of success of the Digital Switzerland association and is based on the concept behind numerous digital centers, such as those in London, Tel Aviv and Berlin, which joined the digital technology and innovation movement early on.

– Thanks to the development of the digital sector, success can now be based on its essence, creativity, knowledge and professionalism. This is our chance. Together, we will work hard on having Serbian innovations and successful endeavors develop on a strong foundation, while receiving more attention. This is why our decision to invest in digital education and IT entrepreneurship is extremely important for the future of our whole community – said Branko Milutinovic.

The Digital Serbia Initiative will enable innovative companies and small and medium enterprises in the IT sector to get basic information and support in managing activities in these areas. It will also help companies and the community establish contacts through various forums and fairs.

Furthermore, the Digital Serbia Initiative will take active part in identifying and resolving the legal limitations slowing down the development of eBusiness in Serbia and will provide active support to technological startup companies.
