Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP) has been secretly negotiating with the company EFT about a potential takeover of the thermal power plant Stanari (TE Stanari) in the Municipality of Stanari close to Doboj for several months now, the portal Klix reports, citing Jutarnji List.

The power plant is worth around USD 500 million and has 300 MW of power and an accompanying mine. It was put into operation last year and is owned by EFT – a wholesale energy trading company owned by Vuk Hamovic.

Neither HEP nor EFT wanted to comment on the information about the talks. Still, according to the information confirmed by two unofficial, mutually independent sources, several meetings have already been held. Representatives of HEP have visited Belgrade to that end as well as the power plant itself, Klix reports, citing Jutarnji List.

TE Stanari is the first private investment in a big conventional electric energy production facility in the territory of former Yugoslavia. The mine in question is a lignite mine and features estimated geological reserves of 88 million tons.
