Swedish Trelleborg to expand production of tires in Serbia – Construction of new facility in Ruma's Mitas soon

The Ruma-based tire factory Mitas became a part of Sweden's Trelleborg in October 2016, but it still operates under its old name in the municipality of Ruma.

The Swedish company Trelleborg was founded in 1905 and is one of the most important producers and a leader in the field of industrial pneumatics with around 100 factories in 40 countries.

The tire factory in Ruma was built in 1981, and the Czech Mitas acquired it in 2008 from the American company Galaxy. Mitas has 550 employees, predominantly in the municipality of Ruma, and, judging by the announcements of the past few days, around two hundred more will be employed at the factory, as the construction of a new facility in Ruma is to start soon, and between 100 and 200 workers might be employed there in early 2018.

As Municipal Mayor of Ruma Dusan Ljubisic explains, Mitas is planning to start building a new facility, and the municipality has helped it overcome the obstacles it had.

– We know that they are planning to complete the construction of the new facility in January 2018 and that workers will be employed then – Ljubisic says and adds that the Swedish company has taken over Mitas, but that it still operates under its old name and that they are now starting to expand the production.

The number of employees in Mitas has not changed in the past period, even though the Czech company has become a part of Sweden't Trelleborg, as around 90% of pneumatics produced there is sold to clients in Europe, and the expansion to other markets of the world has been announced.
