The Vranje-based company Alfa Plam recorded a growth of profitability in the January-March period, largely thanks to a higher amount of inventories and lower costs of materials, the company reported.

Alfa Plam recorded a slight growth of operating income to RSD 769.8 million in the first quarter, primarily thanks to savings made in expenses and the production process and partly thanks to foreign sales, which grew by 9.4% to RSD 513.6 million (local sales dropped by 12.9%).

Reduced production in the first quarter of 2017 led to reduced procurement of direct materials. A total of 45,028 units were produced in the first quarter of 2016, whereas the production in the same period of 2017 amounted to 35,547 units, a drop of 21.1%.

The production dropped in the first quarter by 8.2% compared to the corresponding period of 2016 to RSD 1.5 billion and was 0.7% smaller than planned, Alfa Plam says.
