The European Union implemented new antidumping charges on steel products from China on Friday, May 12, in order to stop them from flooding the European market.

The European Commission reported that the new investigation had shown that the Chinese seamless pipes were being sold in Europe at dumping prices.

An additional charge of 29.2 to 54.9% on those products will now be implemented.

EC Spokesperson Margaritis Schinas said that it was another example of the EU utilizing means available to it in order to solve the problem of unfair import of steel.

The EU implemented additional charges on China and Taiwan in January, pertaining to stainless steel and certain joints for pipes being sold in Europe at dumping prices.
