(Mihajlo Pupin) The Pupin memorial project of the Educational Research Society Mihajlo Pupin placed among the top five projects at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) contest.
At the proposal of the Ministry of Culture and Information, the Pupin memorial project, authored by Aleksandra Ninkovic Tasic, competed with 349 other projects and was voted one of the five best projects in the world, thereby winning the champion's title within the WSIS contest, which aims to promote good practice in the implementation of information-communications technologies which contribute to realizing the recently defined United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The project itself, which promotes the work of the great scientist in the field of telecommunication and culture globally, consists of two components, Pupin's virtual museum and an interactive exhibition, with Telekom Srbija as the main partner.
Continuing the tradition of the popularization of life and work of great Serbian scientists, the project provides young people with an opportunity to step into the world of Mihajlo Idvorski Pupin through the virtual museum, visit his home area and gain insight into the work of this great scientist, professor and benefactor.
The other component, the exhibit called “Pupin – From Physical to Spiritual Reality” is unique in many ways, as it provides a comprehensive overview of Pupin's life and work, using the technology of augmented reality, making museology history in the process.
The exhibition itself lasted for 15 months and was visited by more than 120,000 citizens and guests of Belgrade.
The prominent spot won by the Pupin memorial project is significant not just for promoting the scientific heritage of Mihajlo Pupin in the field of culture and telecommunications, protected by UNESCO in 2014, but also for the fact that the promotion itself uses modern technologies to bring the famous scientist's work to people throughout the world.
