(Branislav Nedimovic) Minister of Agriculture of Serbia Branislav Nedimovic has announced that whether Germanyu’s Tonnies is to arrive to Serbia will be known in late May, when the commission of the ministry is to select the investors who have applied for the right of first refusal of the lease of state land for 30 years.
– Tonnies has applied for five different locations, and whether it is to be selected will be determined by the commission in line with the defined criteria, among which are the height of the investment in the sector of agriculture or the agricultural-manufacturing sector, the number of employees, the value of export, the contribution to the development of the local community and others – Nedimovic said for Beta.
According to him, the public invitation was answered by 219 potential investors, of which 45 request the land for manufacturing industry, whereas the rest have proposed projects for agricultural production.
– The German company Tonnies has no special status. Those that meet the requirements will be selected, maybe 15-20 of them – Nedimovic said.
Of the 219 applications, only 7, according to him, feature foreign capital, whereas the remaining 212 are farms from Serbia, which are planning on turning into business entities.
Representatives of the Government of Serbia and Tonnies signed a Memorandum of Understanding in late April 2015 in Belgrade. It was said on the occasion that the company would open 20 pig farms in Serbia.
It was also announced earlier that the owner Clemens Tonnies would invest around EUR 300 million in Serbia.
