Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Branislav Nedimovic stated on Monday, April 24, that the ministry would present a complete draft law on agricultural land in June.

– The law on agricultural land would only be amended to limit the right of an individual to immediately enter the process of purchasing agricultural land in Serbia – he said to the press.

Nedimovic reminded that Serbia was the only land to accept the obligation to liberalize the agricultural land market during its accession negotiations, whereas other countries were only obliged to do so after joining the EU.

According to him, Serbia will use the experience of Slovenia, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Bulgaria and Romania. He emphasized that the experience of Hungary was also good, but that the country had changed its Constitution.

– The concept is for a person to first need to have had residence in the territory of Serbia for a period of time, which will pertain to both natural and legal persons, before meeting the requirements for becoming an owner of agricultural land – Nedimovic said.
