The implementation of new Schengen rules related to passenger control at the EU borders, aiming to prevent threats to interior security and public order in the member-states, has started.

Aside from citizens of third countries, the EU member-state citizens will be inspected thoroughly at the border as well, which might cause delays, the Auto-Moto Association of Serbia said.

The systematic inspection includes the checkup of documents of passengers in the Schengen information system, the Interpol database of stolen and lost travel documents and the national database of stolen, misappropriated, lost and canceled travel permits.

Policemen will be inspecting each travel permit individually using special scanners, which will make border control procedures longer, especially during holidays and the tourist season, says the announcement.
