The center is supposed to enhance and modernize the current green market, as reported by European PROGRESS, stating that the EU and the Swiss Federal Council have set aside EUR 181,400 for the project, whereas the municipality of Doljevac has set aside EUR 20,400, Tanjug reports.

The realization of this project will provide agricultural producers from Doljevac and the surrounding municipalities with better conditions for selling their products, secured marketing, as well as the possibility of generating larger revenues.

– This will be one of the most modern green markets in southern Serbia and farmers in this area will enjoy even better working conditions – Mayor of Doljevac Dejan Smiljkovic said and thanked the EU and the Swiss Federal Council for supporting a range of projects in the territory of the municipality.

By covering and developing 2,000 square meters of space, the green market will be able to accommodate around 180 counters. In the first phase, there will be 50 open and 40 closed counters for selling fruit, vegetables and mixed goods. At the same time, as stated, by economcially strengthening more than 3,800 farms in the municipality of Doljevac, the competitivenes of the local agriculture-based economy will increase.

As reported, during and after the realization of the project, the regulations on the operations of the green market will be taken into account. The municipal institutions will enact the Rulebook on the work of the green market public utility company, the setting of prices, the allocation and rent of stalls, and the use of collected funds.

The first phase of the construction is to be completed in three months, according to the schedule

The work is conducted by construction companies selected at a tender called by the Doljevac municipality: EUROKOP Vinarce, as the lead contractor, and Kran-ING Knjazevac and Kran-Inzenjering DOO Knjazevac. The completion of the modernization work will increase the capacity of both the green market and the local farmers. The number of users at the green market is expected to grow from the current 1,000 to 6,000 after the completion of the second phase of the project, during which shops are to be built around the green market.

The activities of European PROGRESS, a program contributing to sustainable development of southern and southeastern Serbia, are supported by the EU and the Swiss Federal Council with a total of EUR 24,46 million.
