Opening of granite mine at Vucje planned – Annual production of 250 thousand tons expected

In the Ravni Kamen area, not far from Vucje, there is a granite site where the Ravni Kamen mine for exploitation and processing of granite will open, says the head of the Directorate for Economy and Agriculture of Leskovac, Boban Sokolovic.

He adds that the site will secure an annual production of 250 thousand tons in the next 15 years.

Sokolovic says that, as regards the exploitation of mineral resources, the sites at Crveni Breg, Donja Jajina, Grabovnica and the Vucje area will be of special significance in the future period. As he said, the most important site is the one near Predejane.

– This is the mining site Crveni Breg, which contains lead-zinc ores with gold-bearing pyrites, and not far from Donja Jajina near Leskovac is a loam site, with the clay being of darker color due to increased iron oxide content – Sokolovic points out.

The future development of the mineral resources sector in the area of the city of Leskovac requires, above all, intensifying and completing basic geological research.

– The next step is to create conditions for increased authority of the regional and the local self-government in raw material management policy and to strengthen the ecological aspect of rock exploitation – Sokolovic concludes.
